FAQs:

ask a question

-What is the story about? | Most simply put, it is an adventure story. I have written it to show that life is an adventure, that philosophy is a part of daily discourse and to make philosophical thinking interesting. I wish to both introduce the clarifying nature of true philosophy and make people aware that daily discourse, knowledge, and all human interaction is arranged by philosophical understanding.

-Why did you write the story? | Check out online content for a thorough answer...

-Do I need to know philosophy to appreciate the story? | No. It will probably yield maximum appreciation, but the story narrative can exist separate from philosophy and "heady stuff."

-How can I get a copy? | The Red and White Baton is now available from SGM Ideas, the publisher, iUniverse, and other major book outlets online.

Here is the best breakdown of where you can get books:

The best place to land a copy is through the SGM Ideas Bookstore. Copies run about $15.00 (10% off retail) not including s&h. This inventory is limited.

The publisher iUniverse offers them at retail price, $16.95 for softcover and $26.95 on hardcover.

There will also be local bookstores that will have access to the book. Any bookstore will, in fact, be able to get the title. Some may even have the title on shelf. Thus, the electronic access to books in this day and age makes my book readily available. However, the only physical inventory can be found at SGM Ideas and bookstores that will choose to carry it in the store.

-Is the story appropriate for children? | Good question. I would say the lessons are appropriate for children, but the presentation can sometimes be intense and graphic. I would leave it up to parent discretion after reading and considering a personal stance for family appropriateness.

-Do I have to be a deep thinker to like the story? | No, although that is what the story encourages. Deep thinking is an inevitable result of reading the story. However, being a deep thinker is not a prerequisite.

-What inspires your writing? What inspires you to write? | The Red and White Baton was inspired by the teachings and personality of Dr. Byron Bitar, a college professor of mine who died of cancer. More generally, I am inspired by hard and trying times and write to organize my thoughts. I am inspired to think creatively. I am also inspired by the study of philosophy, but I think this is better categorized as a major part of the work in a theme (cf. themes). Various beers and wines stimulate the creative process as well...if you can consider it an inspiration...

-How do I get a signed copy? | Signed copies are only available at events or from the SGM Ideas Bookstore.
